The College of Communications, made up of the Department of Journalism, the Department of Radio-Television, and the Department of Speech Communication, combines a strong liberal arts and sciences background with the professional preparation required to succeed in communications. The studies prescribed by the college have four major purposes:

  • To provide a rich cultural foundation upon which students can build rewarding lives;

  • To present communications problems in the context of their origin and development;

  • To prepare students for productive roles in Journalism (with emphases in news-editorial, photojournalism, public relations, and advertising), Graphic Communication, Radio-Television (with emphases in broadcast news, management, and production (either video-audio or new media); and Speech Communication;

  • To provide a foundation for research in the growing knowledge of communications
_Accreditation

The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) invites all students, faculty, staff, administrators and other persons to report incidents in which they can present evidence that the college or ACEJMC has violated accreditation standards, policies or procedures. Such complaints must be made in writing and addressed to President, ACEJMC, 109 Stuauffer-Flint Hall, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS 66045.

A copy of the complaint should be sent to Dean Russell E. Shain, College of Communications, P.O. Box 540 State University, AR 72467.

Complaints must be accompanies by documentation showing a specific, substantive violation of one or more standard, policies or procedures. ACEJMC does not adjudicate, arbitrate or mediate individual faculty or student grievances against a school; nor does it act as a court of appeals in individual matters of admissions, appointment, promotion or dismissal of faculty, staff or students. In considering complaints, ACEJMC will give careful attention to due process for both the complaint and the school.
