Communications students selected
for 9 Southeast Journalism awards

Herald staff members and Arkansas State University Communications students participating in the 16th annual convention of the Southeast Journalism Conference at Clarksville, Tenn., received nine awards over the Feb. 23 weekend. ASU participated with 60 universities from seven states.

Heather McCutcheon won first place for the Best Undergraduate Research Paper and also first in the on-site competition in Public Relations Crisis Management.

Shannon Knebel, former editor of The Herald, finished second in SEJC College Journalist of the Year. She also placed second in News Reporting and second in Best Newspaper Editorial.

Brian Rodriguez, current editor of The Herald, received seconds in Newspaper Best Photo Essay and Newspaper Best Feature Photograph.

In addition, Wes Reynaud placed second in Best Sports Game Photograph, and Grover Welch received an honorable mention for on-site Sidebar competition.

Along with Knebel, McCutcheon, Reynaud and Welch, Herald staffers Jerrica Hutchison, Emily Jones and John Adamson also attended the convention. Bonnie Thrasher, Herald adviser, accompanied the students to the meeting.
