Thompson to lead workshop for students
on computer-assisted reporting
J. J. Thompson, assistant city editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette,
will lead a seminar on computer-assisted reporting for students and faculty
at ASU's College of Communications at 3 p.m. on April 15.
Thompson will also speak to students and meet with The Herald during
her visit, which is underwritten by an ASJMC grant from the Knight Foundation.
Journalism Instructor Bonnie Thrasher is coordinating the exchange program
financed by the grant. Thompson's full schedule follows:

Thompson is an assistant city editor in charge of computer-assisted reporting
at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. She has also worked at USNews &
World Report as an associate editor, as a free-lance reporter for state
and national publications and as a features and news reporter at the Arkansas
Gazette. She earned her master's degree in journalism and mass communication
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
where she specialized in precision journalism under Philip Meyer. She
has taught
college and graduate level courses at the University of Arkansas at Little
Rock. Her bachelor's degree is in history from Hendrix College.
