Military Science Award Ceremony gives 90 awards

Academic and military achievements were recognized at the Military Science Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony was held Friday at 2 p.m. in the armory and was part of the Convocation of Scholars at Arkansas State.

Matthew Crockett, Alex Davidson, Robert Early, Travis Easterling, Earl Goad, Megan Hueter, Monica Huskey, Joseph Steele, John Tice and Jeremy Tillman received the Dean's List Ribbon academic award for achieving at least a 3.5 gpa for fall 2001.

Adriene Dulaney, Steven Howard and Jeffrey Kanell received the Cadet Honors Ribbon academic award for achieving at least a 3.2 gpa for fall 2001.

Christopher Aaron, Laquandra Burchett, Richard Cooper, Trentonia Easter, Angela Hart, Michael Hubbard, Michael McCarty, Les Patterson, and Aaron Ward received the Cadet Scholar Ribbon academic award for achieving at least a 3.0 gpa for fall 2001.

Joseph Myer received the Platinum Medal Athlete award for scoring 325 of the needed 300 points on the APFT during the 2002 school year. Easterling, Steele and Tillman were awarded Gold Medal Athlete for scoring above 290, Chad Casey was awarded Silver Medal Athlete for scoring above 280, and Huskey was awarded Bronze for scoring above 270.

McCarty received the ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate award for displaying outstanding qualities of leadership, high moral character, noteworthy academic achievement and exceptional military service aptitude.

Boling, Burchett, Casey, Collier, Davidson, Easter, Easterling, Goad, Hueter, Kanell, Mack, Roberts, Steele, Tice, Tillman, Ward, Warren and White were awarded the Color Guard Ribbon for participating in numerous events as members of the color guard.

Goad, Jackson, Harvey and Huskey were awarded for most improved from fall 2001 to present.

Boling, Casey, Collier, Kanell, Mack, Myer, Steele, Tillman and Williams received Ranger Challenge Award for competing in the Brigade Ranger Challenge Competition during fall 2001.

White, Tillman, Tice and Huskey were awarded the Superior Cadet Decoration Award for outstanding cadet in each year of Military Science.

Steele was awarded the National Defense Industrial Association Award. Requirements include receiving a "B" or above in the Reserve Officer Training Corp, being rated in the top 20 percent in camp evaluation, active participation in athletics and outstanding leadership ability must be shown.

Goad was awarded the United States Services Automobile Association Award for being the cadet who best exemplifies the concept of service to unit, community and nation.

McCarty received the George C. Marshall Award for the most outstanding MS IV, for completing advanced camp and for demonstrating leadership and scholastic qualities which epitomize the career of George C. Marshall.

Cooper received the Jonesboro Kiwanis Club Award for outstanding senior ROTC student.

Huskey received the Olive Nix Peek Award for outstanding academic knowledge in military history.

Jackson received the Colonel George M. Peek Award for outstanding citizenship in the community.

Howard received the Edwin O. Carlson Award for outstanding leadership.
Warren, Kannell and Casey received the Reserve Officer's Association Award for indication to continue in the program and to obtain a commission, for being in the top ten in the ROTC class, and for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities, moral character and high aptitude for military service.

Cooper received the gold excellence American Legion Award and Hueter received the gold scholastic American Legion Award for being in the top 25 percent of academic and ROTC class, and for demonstrating outstanding qualities in leadership, discipline, character and citizenship.

Goad received the Veterans of Foreign Wars Award for good academic and military standing, demonstrating achievement and concentrated effort in military and academic subjects.

Kanell received the American Veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam Award for demonstrating diligence in the discharge of duty and the willingness to serve both God and country, and for being in good standing in all scholastic and military aspects.
Crockett received the National Sojourners Award for being in the top 25 percent of his academic class and for encouraging and demonstrating American idealism by deed and conduct and for showing leadership potential.

Davidson received the Sons of American Revolution Award for good military and scholastic standing and for showing a high degree of merit in qualities, soldierly bearing and all around excellence in ROTC program studies and activities.

Huskey received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award for graduating in the ROTC and academic top 25 percent, for demonstrating qualities of loyalty, patriotism, dependability and good character, for adhering o military discipline, and for possessing leadership ability and fundamental and patriotic understanding of ROTC training.

Maxwell received the Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America Award for MS I or MS II who have accomplished a high degree of excellence in military history or related course by diligence or endeavor, for demonstrating good leadership potential and patriotism.

Easter received the Retired Officers Association Medal for good academic standing, high moral character, evidence of high order of loyalty, and for showing exceptional potential for military leadership.

Tillman received the Society of the War of 1812 Award for MS II in good academic standing and high moral character.

Myer, Ward and Steele received the Military Order of the World Wars Award for MS I, II and III excelling in all military and scholastic aspects of the ROTC program.

Hart received the Faculty Women's Club Award for outstanding leadership and scholastic qualities.

Burchett received the American Legion Auxiliary award for outstanding attributes and for demonstrating leadership.

Easterling received the Sgt. York Award for contributing the most support to the ROTC program.
