The Herald Celebrates

Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month the Herald will profile black organizations and members of Arkansas State University. They will appear in print, on the Web site and also in this speical section.

 Students march in the Black History Month Marade and Unity Rally Saturday morning. The marade began at Simmons First Bank on Caraway and ended at the Dean B. Ellis Library. Several organizations took part in the marade, as well as Rep. Marion Berry, who followed the crowd in a car.

Ellis Library lobby on Friday as Taneshia Johnson, a sophomore psychology major of Little Rock at left, serves punch. The cake was free to students in celebration of Carter G. Woodson Day, the founder of Black History Month. Woodson dedicated his life to researching and preserving the saga of the African-American experience, and is known as the "father of black history."

First African-American Arkansas State professor speaks about past 30 years

United Voices choir travels, ministers, unites students and faculty
