
This program is one of the oldest (a chapter of Pi Kappa Delta, the national honorary organization, was chartered in 1948) and most successful competitive programs in the state of Arkansas. Success can be measured in long term success at tournaments at the state, regional, and national level. A few examples of such success are the following:
- 1983: State Debate Champion, Arkansas State Communication Association (ASCA) tournament
- 1984: Repeat State Debate Champion, ASCA.
- 1985: Second Place, ASCA.
- 1986: State Debate Champion, ASCA.
- 1997 – 2000: State Debate Champion, ASCA
- Regional level:
- 1986: Second Place Overall Sweepstakes, Pi Kappa Delta, Tri-Province Tournament, San Antonia.
- National level:
- 1987: 1st Place in Duo Dramatic Interpretation, Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament, 12th place overall sweepstakes (out of 105 schools).
- 1989: Repeat 1st Place in Duo Dramatic Interpretation, Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament – 9th place overall sweepstakes (out of 112 schools).
- 1998: National Champion, Quality Division, Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA).
- 1999: Second Place, International Public Debate Association National Tournament (IPDA).
- 2000: National Champion, Novice IPDA Tournament.
- 2001: National Champion Speaker, CEDA National Tournament.
- 2002: National Champion Team, Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament.
In short, the ASU Debate and Forensics Team are composed of winners who compete at the national and international level. Our alumni are also winners, who are leaders in business, academia, law, government, and other organizations.
